In preparation of making our horror trailer, we made a horror poster and asked each person in the class to give it a score and vote whether they would want to watch the film or not, this helped determine what type of horror genre are trailer was going to be. We only scored 4/15 with are initial idea therefore this told us we needed to change the genre and focus on what are target audience wanted.
We also carried out a focus group screening of are trailer "The Possessed" to see what the people in are class liked and disliked about are trailer, so we could make any further changes to improve and reach out to are target audience. Are trailer scored the highest in the class 8.5/10, from this we took the negative comments are adapted are trailer to these ready for the evaluation screening. These were all different methodologies we used to find are audience research.
The target audience for our horror trailer "The Possessed" is 15-35 year old male and female individuals and reformers, which are two groups that make up the horror subculture, who enjoy watching real life experience Psychological horror films, these types of people are harder to please than the mainstream audience, but we have focused mainly on these to make a specific type of trailer.
The problem with any form of audience research is that you can not always find what the audience think. Horror is known for being harder to please than mainstreamers, which leaves you with a lrage range of a mixture of opinions. For example in class we looked at Dawn of the Dead 1979 some people really appreicated Tom Savini's use of gore but some people found it too gory and couldn't watch it.
