This scene from DotD (1979) shows how gory mise-en-scene is used a lot and indicates the main theme of this film, which is body horror. Tom Savini was the special fx artists on this film and he made the gore effects as big as possible and he wanted to make them as realistic as possible. This particular scene is showing when the slow moving zombies are pulling out the intestines of the bikers who tried to invade the mall. This scene also indicates how Romero used cinematography a lot in his editing to disgust the audience. He achieved this well as in many countries this film was banned and had many parts cuts out to tone down the gore. Close ups and extreme close ups are used to show the gore in intricate detail. The context of the film is also shown as at the time DotD (1979) was made it was the rise in shopping malls/ consumerism. This is why the zombies are attracted to the mall as that was part of their routine before, needing to buy stuff.
